Levanto, the second capital of the Chachapoya
Levanto District is located in the central and western part of the Province of Chachapoyas, at about 45 minutes drive from the capital. Levanto District was created in the time of the independence. In 1538 Alonso de Alvarado founded the city of “Chachapoyas border”, now called Levanto. Near this town, there is a huge amount of archaeological and scenic attractions. The area has nine important archaeological sites.
Today Levanto is still an important town in the history of the Chachapoyas but it is rarely visited. The population of this town is about1000 people who live mainly on farming and agriculture.
The town of Levanto is a suitable location for the development of NGOs in relation to children.
