Chachapoyas / Levanto
The project development will be done in two areas.
First, in the Levanto area where will be established of the "cultural centre".
This village has been chosen to develop the project Ecolibri for its population and its proximity to the regional capital of Amazonas, Chachapoyas.
Levanto is a rural village with low economic resources. The population lives essentially from agriculture and cattle farming. The town has an average of 1000 people, which about 150 are children and adolescents. The village has a primary and secondary school. The primary school children attend classes in the afternoon and the secondary school children in the morning. The rest of the time the children help their parents on the farm or stay at home. Only few of them have the opportunity to go to the University of Chachapoyas.
As in a lot of place in Peru, in Levanto there is a lot of violence but no social offer and psychological assistance adapted to this needs.
Levanto's proximity to the city of Chachapoyas (45 minutes by car) will enable the project to have a visibility of the city of Chachapoyas and the Amazonas region on the activities of the organization Ecolibri in order to develop and work in the future together.
Also, considering that currently there is no active NGO, working with children and adolescents, in Chachapoyas, Levanto is considered as a good strategic point to start this type of project. Levanto is the second village the closest to the city of Chachapoyas and works in tight relation with the city of Chachapoyas. This will allow in the future to strengthen the development of NGOs as the MANTHOC (Movement of Working Children and Adolescents of Christian Workers) and encourage the creation of new NGOs working with the themes of childhood and youth.
The project of the "cultural centre" has been presented to the village of Levanto during a meeting with the entire community. The reaction of people was very positive and all agreed the project.
Historically, Levanto was the second capital of the area (first: The Jalca Grande, second: Levanto, third: Chachapoyas). Consequently Levanto has a potential to develop touristically. The Ecolibri project wants to support the economic development of Levanto by promoting the growth of the Association of Tourism and Handicrafts of Levanto(ATAL) but also by helping to develop some work to raise awareness on the town's history and archaeological sites as the ruin of Yalape.
In the area of Chachapoyas, the Ecolibri organization wants to develop work promoting the education and the awareness to social issues such as violence and disability.
The city of Chachapoyas is growing a lot in the recent years but the public support services are still very basic. The Ecolibri idea is to act as a promoter of social projects in the city of Chachapoyas and in the Amazonas region.
A partnership with other organizations and public institution such as the CEM (Women's Emergency Centre), the DEMUNA (Municipal Defender of Children and Adolescents), the OMAPED (Municipal Office of Attention to Persons with Disabilities), will be installed to develop some work together.
Some projects will be promoted to encourage the development of a more appropriate assistance responding better to the needs of the population.
